2005-09-08 08:53  MOFCOM

Distinguished Minister Mari E. Pangestu,
Distinguished Charge de Affairs Mr. Danto Ntoma,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen:

In the same time of last year, I attended the opening ceremony of the first Indonesia Solo Exhibition and I was deeply impressed by the characteristic commodities and culture of Indonesia and the successful holding of the Exhibition. Today, I am delighted to take part in the 2nd Session held in Beijing by Ministry of Trade of Indonesia and the Embassy of Indonesia in China. As the supporter of the Exhibition, I would like hereby, on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce, to extend sincere congratulations to the successful open of the Exhibition, and warm welcome to people of business community in China and Indonesia, and earnest thanks for the preparation of the Exhibition by CCPIT and China International Exhibition Center.

Indonesia is a friendly neighbor of China and our two countries have a long history of friendly relations. 600 years ago, Zheng He, an official of Ming Dynasty, had been to Indonesia for several times, and Indonesia is now still one of ASEAN countries to establish earliest diplomatic relations with China. 2005 is the 55th anniversary of Diplomatic Relation Establishment between China and Indonesia, President of China Hu Jintao and President of Indonesia Susilo held two-way visits and signed together the joint announcement on China-Indonesia Strategic Partnership and reached a series of consensus on promotion of bilateral cooperation. China-Indonesia relationship is facing with new opportunities.

Trust in each other on politics between China and Indonesia promoted the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, Indonesia is one of the important partners of China on trade and economic cooperation.

In 2004, the bilateral trade between China and Indonesia amounted to US$13.5 billion, becoming the 17th trading partner of China, and on the other hand, China was the fourth biggest trading partner of Indonesia. In Jan. through July, the bilateral trade reached US$9.6 billion, up by 32% on year-on-year basis. Besides, the two countries also expanded the economic cooperation in project contracting and trade and economic cooperation. Chinese government provided favorable buyers credit projects and made positive achievements. The good momentum indicated that the bilateral trade and economic cooperation was facing with new chances and China would like to stick on the principle of equality and mutual efforts, long-term cooperation and common development to further push forward China-Indonesia trade and economic cooperation to develop in a deeper and broader way.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The sustainable development of Chinese economy would certainly offer huge market and more cooperation opportunities for the world and China-Indonesia economic cooperation in special. China will constantly insist on the policy of "amicable, tranquil and prosperous neighborhood". The Indonesia Solo Exhibition held in Beijing is an important platform to expand China-Indonesia bilateral trade and will be beneficial for the improvement of recognition of Chinese consumers on Indonesian products and for the expansion of cooperation opportunities on bilateral trade. I am happy to see that many Indonesian enterprises participate the Exhibition and Chinese enterprises, medias and consumers show great enthusiasm to the Exhibition. The 2nd China-ASEAN Expo will be held in Nanning, Guangxi on Oct. 19 to 22, I hope that Indonesian government and enterprises could actively take part in and discuss opportunities of trade, investment and economic cooperation in a bigger scale to further push forward the development between China and Indonesia, and even ASEAN.

I believe that with support of our two governments, the Indonesia Solo Exhibition would certainly be a success through the participation of people in business community in China and Indonesia, the two countries could step up to a new stage in trade and economic cooperation, we have confidence to realize the bilateral trade target of US$30 billion in 2010 put forward by leaders of China and Indonesia.

Thanks!
